There has been a great deal of research carried out in order to ascertain to what extent junk food and fast food help contribute towards obesity levels. Not surprisingly, studies have shown that areas that have a higher ratio of fast food franchises to people typically suffer from higher rates of obesity.
The big attraction of fast food is its convenience, with such a fast paced and hectic society, where time is at an absolute premium and with so many of us having to work longer hours at work, we simply do not have the energy to cook for ourselves.
Sadly, there are no magic solutions to solve junk food addictions and turn them into healthier eating plans, instead they require commitment, time, patience and hard work which can be a rather tall order to achieve.
That being said, the following is a list of some tips, which will help you break away from your dependence on junk food, and allow you to enjoy a better quality of life as your health will improve. You may find that it is much more manageable if you implement the following points slowly rather than all at once, because then you may find that you quickly get fed up.

Shopping is a priority, and whilst it may seem like an insufferable chore, if you make it the same day each and every week then you will enjoy a higher chance of achieving some success. Shopping is an excellent way of saving money as well, because the mark up in fast food restaurants is astronomical meaning that you pay a substantial premium for food, which you can comfortably make at a fraction of the price.
Make a shopping list/stock list on the computer with a program such as Microsoft Excel, so that you can easily update the levels of staple foods that you have, so that you wont run out. Excel is especially useful for this as it automatically updates values, whether you add or delete them allowing for you to have an immediate result available for you at a glance. Running out of your usual foods is one of the quickest ways for temptation for a take away to kick in.

Don't starve yourself! Eat 6 small meals instead of 3 large ones, snacking on healthy foods such as a fat burning apple, protein packed, metabolism raising light salad with boiled eggs and flaxseed oil dressing.

Enjoy your food, and learn to appreciate it more whether it is learning about the different nutrients and their effects or simply learning different recipes. There are tons of recipes on the Internet and there will probably be a number of different cookery classes in your local area as well so make sure you have a look!

Unplug the TV at the point. You will be less likely to sit there and watch it aimlessly if you have to make a conscious effort to turn it on. Particularly around 6-8 pm, the junk food restaurants will advertise, watch a DVD during these times. A recent review of childhood obesity research, has, not surprisingly found that the amount of time you spend watching TV has a direct affect on being overweight.
