Today, we all know something about the right types of eating habits. Most of us are aware of what we eat and whether it’s good or bad for us. We have labels that are available, that tell us what is in the foods we eat.
Today it seems like every food producer has decided that their product has to be fat free, cholesterol free, or preservative free, and that’s the way they advertise it.
This isn’t really bad, if it were truthful then we would be doing well, but the truth is that we need to learn to distinguish between the bad and the good, and we can only do that by reading the entire food label on the back of the food.
Cholesterol is fat that is produced by the liver when we eat greasy food or foods that contain fat. This fat is then pushed into the blood, and our body cells. When we get too much of it our arteries clog up and we can die because the blood cannot circulate well.
Needless to say, not all cholesterol is bad. There is in fact good cholesterol. But the bad cholesterol is called Low Density Lipoprotein or LDL. This causes fat build up in our arteries, and is what causes heart disease, strokes, and heart failure.
High Density Lipoprotein or HDL is good cholesterol and it helps eliminate the bad cholesterol from our bodies. This type of cholesterol is needed by our bodies. It helps repair cell damage, creates sexual desire, and helps us digest the food we eat.
In essence we need to exchange a lot of the bad cholesterol we put into our bodies for the good cholesterol our bodies need to function properly and keep us in good shape.
